    new transmission help

I am about to buy a used manual transmission with unknown miles on but it was from a 91 and it doesn't include the clutch or the flywheel and I was wondering how many miles a stock transmission will last

do they last forever with a new clutch flywheel and pilot bearings

This is for a ix so you don't find a transmission all that much

You can expect the layshaft bearings to rattle with the clutch released and the shifter in neutral (getrag rattle). Every manual trans E30 I have owned/been in has done this. I bought a trans sight unseen, mileage unknown just trusting the seller that it didn't pop out of gear and it even sat dry for about a year. I replaced all the seals in it, installed it in my car and it has been great ever since.

a stock transmission will last 250k+ miles if its treated right. like you said a ix tranny is rare so if the price is right id jump on it. If i was to check it out id make sure it slides into the gears easily and pull the magnetic drain plug and look for metal shavings and the state of the oil.
