    Short Shift Z3/Z4

I know this is maybe a popular question, but I searched and I'm not totally clear what the best option is...

    Z3 1.9
    Z3 3.0
    Z4 3.0
    Z4 2.5

I've got a 318is, and right now the stock shifter is super tight, and decently notchy, almost feels as if someone replaced the bushings sometime. However, I'd like to upgrade...

What do you guys run? And what sort of maintenance bushings should I be doing at the same time?

And does anyone have some parts for sale?

I have the Z4 3.0 and its crazy notchy, i use a tall knob to help smooth out the change, a Z3 1.9 seems to be perfect.

I make tall shifter knobs, and i like the setup.

A bent Z3 2.8 is the best you can get IMO. I have a Z3M and it took a bit of work to fit. But throw to height ratio is ideal. Z4 is extremely stubby.

I run the Z3 in my 91 318is (now s52) and the shifting is big improvement over the stock set up but not too notchy IMO. I run the same 240 gearbox you have. A nice cheap worthwhile upgrade.
