    Leaking diff

Before installing the 3.73 LSD on my 318i I took off the cover, cleaned the inside and put the diff back together using silicon sealant instead of new gasket.

So, after installing the LSD and driving the car for a week I see it's leaking at the bottom of the gasket... So my question is, is there a way to take off the cover without taking off the diff? It's a medium case so I think it has 8 bolts and some of them are kinda up there behind the spare tire well.

And second question, now that I know that silicon sealant is not the optimal solution, what should I use as a new gasket? I'll call BMW dealership and ask if they have it in stock, but if they don't, any recommendations?

    Thank you.

You don't need to remove the diff. Just taking the back off is easy peasy. Just make sure it's held up by a small jack/jackstand when you remove the bushing bolt.

After that, a few bolts, and it's off. Not hard at all.

      And, gasket.

Thanks everyone. Will call the dealership tomorrow morning, and hopefully will be putting in the gasket tomorrow night.
