Ix tranny spilt its guts Friday

So when to warm up the car Friday at 5 to go home. Fired it up, went inside and when I came back out to leave there was a huge puddle of dark red tranny fluid forming under the car. Ha it towed home and took a look this morning and didn't see anything broken or etc so I'm assuming its something inside.

Anybody might have a clue what it'd be before I start searchin for myself?

In the morning I had love tapped a car in front of me thanks to some ice but it wasn't even a hard hit. No scratches on either or anything. Didn't leak anything there or on my way to work. Just at 5pm when I got ready to go home.

Auto or manual? If an auto one of the cooler hoses or the pan gasket could have let go.

A manual transmission won't dump fluid when parked on a reasonably level surface unless the case is cracked or the fill/drain plug is loose or missing. However a bad input shaft seal can dump fluid into the bell housing and when the car is parked a surprisingly large amount of fluid will drain from the bell housing.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Auto trans. Looks like the fluid was coming from the bell housing...the "vent" area at the bottom of the housing.

That would be a failure of the seals in the transmission.

so would the trans required to be rebuilt or would it just be the inout shaft seal?

Most likely just needs new seals. There are some "might as well while your in there" jobs you might want to do as well if your taking the trany off.

tranny would have to come out to replace front seal on that tranny, does the fluid smell burnt? when was it last changed? I ask because you pull tranny you get all new fluids and if it hasn't been cared for you will most likely have tranny problems in the near future after install.
