I dont mind it now, but i feel like i will be bored of my automatic in time. I know manual is supposedly the right way, and more fun, but is it worth the money and alterations to my car to install it? I dont plan on selling it btw. I've altered it enough with the Alpine/Rockford Fosgate sound system.

An auto to manual swap was very worth it to me and there is no evidence that it was an auto to begin with. You shouldnt feel pressure from the community to have a manual trans for the sake of "acceptance " but if it is what YOU really want, then it can be a very straightforward and painless gig if you take your time on the project, have the right tools, and familiarize yourself with the process. Quite a few people have done this before so there are lots of resources.

Is your car an M10?
Either way, a manual trans brings the E30 chassis to life. Autos work great paired with engines that make strong low rpm torque, something E30 does not have.
You won't notice a huge difference at full throttle but you will all the other times which is the bulk of the driving experience.

I was at a crossroads too. Because i didnt want to do it then have all of that time and money invested to not turn a result when/or if i sell it. But i love the car so much i figure why not! Planning on mine right now. I hear removing the engine with tranny out the top is easier but takes longer.

I have an auto in my cabrio and have no intensions of swapping it out. If it fails then I will or 5spd parts happen to fall on my doorstep. I Can say this easily because I also have my coupe that is a manual so I get my jollies off with that one. If it weren't for the coupe, the cabrio would have been swapped long ago. A manual is so much more fun. But it depends on what's your pleasure.

I once had a E30 318i manual and a 325i auto at the same time. The 318i had less power but, the manual transmission made it feel as fast or faster than the 325i auto. So yes, it is worth it to do the swap.
