    auomatic shutting off

so my fiancee just bought a e30 and ,as she wanted, its an auto. well it has been giving her problems and its been frusterating, she will back out of the driveway and the second she puts it in Drive it will shut off.

other times she will start the car and it will just die out/ multiple times, but if she starts it up and puts it in reverse/drive it does not die. i really dont know my way around the auto transmissions on the e30 and i dont even know where to start. This is her DD and these issues are making it more and more unreliable. i dont want her to end up stranded. please help me out

    thanks.

I don't see any direct way for the transmission to be causing the shut off. My suspicion would be that there is an engine management problem that is robbing the engine of idle power and the load from the transmission going into gear is killing the engine.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

so you think its more of the ECU? any way to check that? does the e30 have a BCM?

It could be any of a number of things like intake leaks, bad ignition components, a dirty or bad ICV, bad TPS, etc
