    Clutch issues....

Before you say it, I searched.

The car is an 86 325e. Obviously a 5 speed.

Here's the deal. I bought the car about 3 weeks ago with no clutch pedal pressure. You could throw it into the gears with the car off, but the clutch did nothing. Ok, I figure it's the master, since the clutch pedal was pretty much locked up. Replaced the master. Bled the system only to find that the slave was bad. It actually over extended the piston rod and blew out the seal. Installed a new slave. Hell, I even replaced the lines while I was there.

Here's where it gets fun. After installing all the new components, I have very little clutch pressure. The adjuster for the return spring is extended as far as possible, but the pedal won't return on it's own. Also, I feel that the slave is possibly over extending itself trying to reach the clutch release fork. I've bled the system multiple times. After cracking the bleeder, and pumping up the pedal, it will only depress about 3/4 of the way down, and then it locks up. Like you're pushing it against the floor, but there's still at least an inch to go.

Is it possible that I've got a bent clutch fork? I mean, I know it's possible. The real question is, is it possible to inspect it without removing the trans? This is my first e30, but hardly my first car. I know my way around the garage quite well, but I'm just beginning to learn these things. If it were a Subaru, I'd have had it done weeks ago.

So, after reading my ramblings, can somebody help??

Cliffs notes: Clutch is borked. Help me fix it.

I can't think of a way for the slave to over extend that doesn't involve something wrong inside the bell housing. Pull the transmission and find out what the problem is.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That's what I was thinking, although the new clutch master cylinder I installed just broke, so I'm thinking I got a defective one. Hopefully. I'll update once I get the new master in.
