E30 owner w/ E46 question.

I just got a 99 E46 sedan as a second car. Looking to retire the E30 MTech 2. E46 is automatic, non steptronic with 148k. Car will not go in reverse. I have found a 98 auto E36 tranny with 92k. The production date on my E46 is 1998-08-04. Will this e36 tranny work in my e46? Looking to do straight swap. Any info would be greatly appreciated. If you need any additional info. I'm thinking that this won't work. The E36 transmission is probably an A4S270 or A4S310. I thin the E46 would have an A5S325 A5S360, etc.
