    Diff Viscous to Clutch Conversion

I messed up. Didn't do enough homework before I bought a 3.91 LSD diff from a IX. The IX diff's have a viscous LSD system. From everything I have read - this won't hold up to serious road racing.

    My question is:
I have a few extra 3.73 LSD's laying around. Can I take the clutch section from the 3.73- remove the viscous section from the 3.91 diff - and install it in the 3.91 gear set/housing? I really don't want to remove the gears ( keep the back lash / setup) correct. Does anyone know what can be done here?

Worse case will the gear set bolt into the 3.73 diff? I would rather just remove the viscous system and install the clutch pack system.

    Thanks

Well there is one fact here-- you will have to remove the ring gear in order to get the lsd into the case.

I don't know if you can use the IX ring/pinion gear in a clutch pack LSD, but someone with more experience will chime in.
