S52/ZF clutch bled, but still mediocre

This is an S52 with E36 ZF trans and lightweight flywheel. The transmission crunches slightly going into gear and this is after installation of a new z3/2.5 shifter and bushings. The clutch engages pretty close to the floorboard, even after I reverse-bled the slave cylinder (supplying fluid at the bleed valve and pushing the air bubbles up into the master cylinder). The trans only has 75K or so on it, so I suspect that I'm not quite getting enough clutch disengagement.
Pedal feels fine. In short, shifting is nowhere near as good as a bone-stock m20 and getrag.

Is there any other factor besides bleeding that can buy a scootch more disengagement? Would going back to an OEM flywheel make a difference?

Please use small words - I'm not that smart.

I couldn't say - The entire swap was done by the PO. What are the choices?

Well it could be the ZF slave or the 260 slave. I would assume you probably have the ZF slave and I've read about this on here before. Let me see if I can find it for you.

Have same set up and have no issues with engagement. It's smooth and works well. I did have to replace the slave yesterday because the seal failed in the -6 degree weather.

            No leaks in the gearbox?

You could have a bad master cylinder.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

That is a most excellent thread. I will post up any further questions there.

                Gearbox is oil-tight.

Maybe. But there's no play in the pedal - It's firm from the very top of travel.

Thanks to all for your help - I'll jump over to the linked thread after this.
