E30 Shifter Question

So I just finished a 5 speed swap into my '90 325i. I got everything from a '88 325i at a Pull-A-Part, so everything matches. Everything works, but the problem is my shifter is REALLY far back. When it's in 3rd it looks like it's in neutral, and it's a little hard to get it into 2nd and 4th because the shifter hits the console, and the shifter is in a goofy angle when it's that far back. Any idea what the problem is?

Disconnect shifter at bottom and rotate it 180°.

I was thinking of trying that, but I was told that the shifter bend goes towards the back, and that's the way I have it. I guess it can't hurt to try it.

Ditto.....spin the shifter.
