Im buying a used tran for my 325e what sould i look for?????

Hello, im looking to buy a used 5 speed trans/driveshaft for my 86 325E and the one that is for sale is out of an 87 325e. How would i know if the drive shaft is for a 325e , what is the length of the manual driveshafts. Does the 325e run a 260g or a 240g Trans???? Thank you

the 325e runs a getrag 260, for both 86 and 87. However, in 87 the transmission output shaft used a bigger giubo than is normally found on e30s. You should verify that the one you're getting has the same size as the one you're replacing, or you will also need to replace the driveshaft.

you can also just swap the output flange if you really need to. would be cheaper i would think. though if you got the g260 from an 87 and driveshaft that would be perfect to handle most horsepower you would won't from an e30.

Yeah! All 121 of those bad boys ... :giggle:
I think you missd the fact he stated it was an eta..?

All manual spec driveshafts are the same length; e vs i; doesn't make a difference (output flange does though!) When I did my 5-speed swap, I used the front half of an 84 325e driveshaft and the rear end of an 89 325i with no issues whatsoever; I didn't need to balance it either. Worked like a clock. You shouldn't have any issues as long as you match the ittput flanges

Getrag 240s are only used in the 4-cylinder variant e30s (318i/is), with the exception being the e30 M3 that used the 265

        BOOM.
