    Apparent backlash problem

    Hi!

I have an apparent backlash problem in my drivetrain. When I release the clutch, give a little bit of throttle and press the clutch again, I can hear a "clock clock - clock " noise. Like if there was enormous amount of backlash.

I have found info on admissible backlash for diff, but what about transmission? I was running a ZF310.

Have anybody ever experience this problem?

I will check the backlash (in degree I guest) of both my tranny and my diff and start from there...

Get the car up on a lift and have someone duplicate the trigger while you listen under the car for the source of the noise.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Ive found this to be normal with BMWs. My Boss's E46 M3 does it, my Co-workers E30 M3 does it. , My car does it.

The thing is that all the drive train is presently out of the car and wanted to try to "solve" the problem before reassembling the drive train.

I compared the backlash I had on an unknown condition Getrag260 vs the Zf310 and it seem to be pretty much the same....

My guest was that is was a sum of all the basklash tranny+ driveshaft + diff + half shaft...

Yeah I have noticed it pretty bad too. ive got zf+328i driveshaft+ 3.25lsd + oem halfs. I always assumed it was the gearing. gonna see how it is when I switch to 2.93.
