    late shifter selector rod

Can anyone tell me which selector rod is which between the late model manual transmission shifter assembly. The PN are 25111220838 for before 9/89 and 25111221657 after that. I believe one is slightly longer than the other but I have no idea which one I have due to the car having been swapped from auto to a manual transmission. I figured I would just measure the broken one on the car and order the right one. Thanks!

You have to inspect the rod joint (connected to the transmission). If it looks like the left then you need rod (25111220838 ) if you have the latter joint as seen on the right then you need 25111221657.

The rod joint is completely interchangeable on the transmission, however you must use appropriate accompanying selector rod, because the rods will not interchange between the joints.

If you are looking to get a DSSR then you need the later style rod joint.

Nice pictures of the rod joint. My PO had put a post 8/89 rod joint on my 88 vert. The 1988 shifter rod went into the bushing ok but it created a lot of play for shifting. I bought a supposely brand new OEM rod joint from a dealers site but when I received it I noticed the bushing was worn. Sent it back and got a replacement.
