Hard to shift into gear 318is '91

So I've had 2 times where my car has been really hard to shift into gears. Both times the car was cold and loosened up after driving. Not just a little hard to shift but really hard. I searched around and saw what most people are saying. So I turned the motor off the last time and it shifted just fine. But again once it warmed up it seemed to be fine. So I'm thinking that it is either the master is going bad or possibly that it is out of fluid. Is there a way that I can check the fluid level? Any advice would be awesome.
    thanks!

A look at the brake fluid reservoir will quickly tell if there is a low fluid problem. What you described sounds most like a clutch that isn't fully releasing. That could be a problem with the clutch hydraulics or a worn clutch. Given the age of the car, replace the clutch master, slave, and soft line. Bleed the clutch and see if that helps. If not, the clutch will need to be replaced.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
