Clutch disc gave out from inner rivets. Anyone else have this happen?

So I was on a leisurely drive one saturday morning and suddenly the clutch decided it didnt want to engage any more. I pulled into a parking lot and got it towed to my house where it sat for a few weeks (Life got hectic) before i put it up on a lift.

This is the first big DIY i've done but I dropped the trans out. Lo and behold I come across this

It was a sachs clutch and still has meat on it. Obviously I can't reuse it but has anyone else had this happen to them?

I'm weary to buy another Sachs clutch, but I'm not sure what else to do since its an affordable and apparently(other than mine) reliable plate.

Just curious. I need to replace my slave cylinder while i'm down there because of a small leak anyways so I'm gonna start putting together parts to order, but I'm still not sure about the clutch. Everything seems fine but I think a refresh is in order anyways so I'll probably just end up getting a clutch kit.

also it was funny dropping the trans and seeing this

The cause of that failure would be hard launches. An E30 isn't and was never meant to be a dragster. You will need to have the flywheel surfaced and will need a clutch disk and pressure plate. Given the damage to the clutch disk use new flywheel bolts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Guess I better stop hard launching at every stop light when I roll up on ferraris.

In all seriousness I've never hard launched the car and I seriously doubt the previous owner did. Perhaps the one before that? Who knows. I'm obviously getting a new disc and plate (and TOB while I'm at it). My flywheel is in pretty good shape though. Why exactly do I need to resurface it if I'm putting a new clutch in? (Just curious)

the clutch disc and flywheel wear together when they seat against one another. It also provides a new optimized surface for the disc's friction material. Resurfacing is cheap and failing to do it may result in a grabby or chattering clutch. Do yourself a favor and spend the sixty bucks. Is your rear main leaking? Now is the time to address that too.
