    Remove Shift Selector Rod

Ok, I've been trying to figure this out for awhile.

I have a 1985 325e, and can not for the life of me figure out how to get the transmission side of the rod out.

    #12 and #11

I don't see the pin like the other side had. (#8 & #9)

    Any input?

There has to be a snap ring on that, else the rod would slide out of the joint. Someone could have replaced the OE retainer with a flat snap ring. Take a closer look.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So I don't have to take out the dowel to pull out the rod? From what I can see, the supporting bracket is snugged up against the end side of the rod. I can attempt to take a picture so you can see what the deal is.

When I am under the car it looks something like this with my poor paint drawing.

      1 is the selector rod
2 is the gearshift rod joint
3 is the end where the rod pokes out but I cant see if there is anything there, ive poked at it with a screw driver hoping I can pop off the clip if there is anything there.
4 is a round gold bolt, assuming for the supporting bracket.

I will get a picture if I can shortly

Clip is off, but the bar wont come out its hitting the metal plate on top.

Any tricks to get the selector bar out? Or do I have to remove more things?

Would it be ok to remove #2? Its bumping into that bolt, I can't quiet see what it does though.

Just going to remove the vibration dampener, once I figure out how.
