    Clutch slipping again!

Last spring my throw out bearing started making all sorts of terrible noises. Had my friends shop replace it as well as the clutch while they were in there. Also had them do the input shaft seal just because. About 3 months later, the clutch starts slipping. Had his shop do the clutch again under "warranty" and he said it looked like the upper pan gasket was leaking pretty badly and that's what was causing the clutch to slip as oil was getting on the friction surface. They sealed it up best they could but at the time I was planning on swapping so I didn't bother replacing anything else. Few months after that and the clutch is slipping again. Decided I want to keep the M42 and am looking to sort this out as I'm tired of driving around only being able to give 1/2 throttle.

So my question, aside from the upper pan gasket, what else should I be looking to replace while I'm in there? I've never pulled a transmission off and am pretty ignorant when it comes to how clutches work.

    Forgot to clarify. It's a 318is, M42 and getrag 240.

Sounds like the rear main seal on the engine could be your issue as well.

Seems strange a shop would do the job the first time and not even mention the leak(s).

Yea, my good friend is the service writer and usually hooks it up on cost of repair...however the mechanics there aren't always the sharpest when it comes to old or foreign cars. Lesson learned. Time to learn how to do it myself.

I think you'll be surprised how easy it is on a M42 car. Tons of room to work!
