S5D 310Z gates lock out after being parked.

    I'm stumped.
I have a 310 5 spd on an m50. It is full of redline mtl. The housing calls for atf, however it seems like many use redline mtl in these with no problem. When I park the car overnight or at work for 9 or so hours and then get in to leave it will not enter any gear's gate and engage. If forced and you get past a syncro it would grind. If you park on a hill and can roll 50 feet, then gear match to get going the problem goes away. Once driving and have shifted two or three gears, it acts perfectly fine and the problem only comes back after the car sits for a long time. Has anyone experienced this? I recently bought it, last night I got under it and to top off the mtl, thinking it could be dry, sure enough was full. Should I flush it for atf? That is my next recourse. Anyone else have "drying up" issues with redline mtl in a 310 calling for atf?
...what hasn’t been done to an m20 yet?

Side note, I have been parking it and leaving it in the gear I will use to leave the spot with (first or reverse), but I really would prefer to leave it in neutral incase it were bumped by some parking lot idiot

Has this transmission ever worked normally?

I had a a similar issue with fluid mix up on my 1998 540-i; the 6mt calls for ATF and I put in Manual trans fluid 75-90 with some lucas stabilizer; it would shift like hate untill warm; so bad I changed fluid 2 days later with ATF and then gearbox worked perfectly again.

it just started intermittently doing this about 2 weeks ago had been fine prior. Used to park in neutral. Seems to be getting more consistent. Shifts and feels fine once moving. I'll flush it ASAP and see if that cures the trouble

Test if heat related; fluid will thin down with heat.

I found that if i let the car idle to warm (needle in middle, hot heat inside) it would start better- Obviously its a waste of fuel/time but it was much better than shifting a gearbox of hatred.

That behavior makes me think of a clutch problem.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Slow slave or master pressure leak?
