    tourque converter knocking?

I just completely rebuilt my m20 I pulled the tranny off and replaced the rear main while I had it all out. After all reinstallation all was great for about 10 miles I now have a consistent knock coming from the torque converter area it does not get louder or quieter with time or temp and it reacts perfectly to the rpms of the engine. Sounds similar to a rod knock but it is definitely coming from the bell housing or transmission pump area anyone have/solve this issue before is it a problem or just a nuisance. please help. 88 325i cabrio m20 with 4hp22

Did you torque all the flywheel/torque converter bolts down to spec?

Yes I Did and after it started and I pinpointed the location of the noise I loosened and retorqued the converter to flywheel bolts again from the bottom after removing the cover it was quieter almost gone for about 5 minutes then back to normal annoying knock am I gonna have to pull the tranny and start over and if so what do I need to make sure not to do wrong this time I thought I was perfect the first time is there anything to check and test without pulling the tranny again

Is there an easy way to check for a crack without pulling the tranny off I have a 14" floor jack not a lot of room for tranny work don't want to do it all and find out i'm wrong god I hate this any one recently do a swap and got a single mass lying around

The sounds like the bolts that attach the torque converter to the crank are loose. Best practice is the always use new bolts, but if you re-use the bolts they must get thread sealant/locker.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Probably those bolts. It's one of those "you should do it while you're in there" things. Unfortunately there's no way to get to them without taking it all out again.

Jacked it up on jacks drained it unhooked the coolant lines - tomorrow exhaust heat shields and driveshaft come off - Friday night it gets pulled off talked to the guy that was re-assembling with me said he hand tightened flywheel to crankshaft bolts before I torqued them but did not use locktite so I am hoping this is the case (loose bolt) and yes he is the one that will be under holding and lifting the tranny and I will be taking my time making him suffer

pulled it off - one bolt connecting the flywheel to the crank did come off a little easy all the others were definitely holding their torque no cracks in the flywheel seems straight is there any way they can be checked for straightness and can they be out of balance (flywheel or torque converter) at all I want this to go on right I am not doing this again

Might as well throw a g260 in there while you have it out ;)
