Could this be a gearbox issue?

    hi everyone,

This is my issues... When I put it in first and let out on the clutch the shifter rattles, grinds and knocks it out. I can take off in second and do fine through all gears including reverse. The clutch is smooth and every other gear shifts well. Its only does this in first. This has been a gradually issue for sometime but now its impossible to go into first. (cant even force it). I can put in 1st to slow the car down once im already going though.

Would this be a gear box issue? Also, cld it be the first gear Shift gear, or first gear synchronizing ring....or somethings else? Thank you.

There may be more than one problem, but the first you describe sounds like bad motor and/or transmission mounts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I didnt think of that... but why would the mounts have to do with it not staying in gear..... I mean I can't even force it.. (not that I force any of my gears but I tried for the sake of it)...ill take a look at the mounts though

      Thanks
