    white smoke not coolant related

    Hey everyone,

my buddy has a IX auto and realized his tranny was almost empty of fluid. the bone head topped it up over then necessary and had to get some dumped to correct it. He's noticed while driving for extensive periods the car starts shooting white smoke out the exhaust area. He smells something burning he told me just before it starts happening.

He says in city use it doesn't occur but would suspect it's because he's going slow. once on the highway after travelling 20k it's start occurring.

when I went to check his fluid level I noticed he was now down a liter.

Could the white smoke be a leak and dripping onto the cat causing this to happen?

    input would be appreciated. thx

Transmission fluid, or oil, burning makes blue smoke. White smoke is coolant.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
