    Question about transmission fluid use.

These had 17mm EXTERNAL wrenching oil plugs. If the label is green, use Redline MT90. If the label is red, use Redline D4 ATF. If there was no label, the gearbox will have 17mm INTERNAL wrench oil plugs, and should use Redline MTL GL-4 70W-80.
My tranny has no label, but I used MT90 anyways, am I going to be having any problems? I really don't feel like draining it and pouring out all that $10 (or however much) I spent on tranny fluid.

    Thanks

That is correct. But I filled it with MT90 before I read about all this.

It will be ok. I actually don't like 75-90 redline in trannys, and it even says on the bottle not to use it in trannys.

I just use the Redline MTL in mine. Is does the 75-90 work better in our transmissions or something? No one else seems to use the MTL.

I found a red label on mine today. Turner says that the ATF should be used in transmissions produced after 1/95. Can anyone explain why I should be using ATF in my manuel transmission?

              Thanks

How about because that is what it is supposed to have in it. I'm not positive, but I think all BMW manual transmissions since the mid eighties use ATF as fluid. I know that the Getrag as found in E30's does.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

They phased it in from the late eighties until the 90s where they most all use it now.

ok so i think i just bought the wrong fluid. I just bought ATF for my 91 g260, it has internal 17mm drain/fill plug. Will the ATF work or should i return it and get MTL instead?
