Hey guys,
Just replaced my clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing with the exedy clutch kit due to a destroyed throw-out bearing that was in pieces and took a good amount of teeth off the pressure plate as well.
Anyway, before i changed the clutch there was a nice amount of rattling and whining coming from what i thought was the throw-out bearing because when i would push the clutch in the noise would go away. The noise got worse and worse and eventually turned into an unbearable high pitched squeling noise. That's when i stopped driving the car.
Well, it makes a rattling noise now, although obviously not as loud or obtrusive, even with the new clutch kit installed and I was attributing it to the possibility for the need of a new input shaft sleeve that the throw-out bearing sits on. I called Joel from the eurodepot and he said that it's the 4th gear synchro something or other in these transmissions that makes the noise and and goes away when you push the clutch in. He said that it's very common. He compared the noise to a nut in a coffee can shaking around which is about what it sounds like.
I was just wondering if anyone else experiences the same thing and/or had a throwout bearing sieze and break apart on them.
Also, taking the transmission out for the first time on an E30 isn't for the faint at heart or for those that are lacking extensions and universal joints. Not exactly a fun job:crazy: :-D
thanks in advance,
-Tom
