Solid Metal Carrier Bushings?

I have access to a metal lathe and have been thinking about machining solid metal carrier bushings to replace the rubber bushing on the getrag 260.

I would lube the solid metal bushing with lithium grease and install, in lieu of buying + installing delrin bushings...

Would this be detrimental in any aspect?

Very little stress relief might cause metal fatigue??
