LSD ratio? are we talking gearing, or lock %?
it really comes down to personal preference, and what sort of driving you are doing. My last 318 had a 4.45 rear end, and i loved it. most other people that drove it didnt though, and it was a bit of a biatch on the freeway.
IMO, for 'aggressive' driving, the m42 really does benefit from a shorter ratio, the acceleration is fun. that said, im about to put a 3.9 with 60% lock into my current one, so i'l see how i go.sigpicM42 Brigade ... Throwing craze in the 318 -

With the Getrag 260, a 3.73 would be ideal for your situation. 4.10 is fun around town but too much of a compromise for extensive highway driving. You might consider a 3.91, but I can't recommend because I've only driven 'ix's with them and not often enough.Comment
