Noisy ZF 310 trans whine ?

89I,S52 using M20 FW machined for swap C/PP (Clutchmaster) .
I removed G260 and installed a ‘95 ZF 310 unknown mileage/ history. Shifts fine. Has what may be gear whine? bearing ? in 1-4. 5th/direct 1:1 is quiet. Sounds like straight cut gears. ATF = redline D4 atf. Is this typical for a ZF w/high mileage? Lighter FW or is something headed south ? Do you rebuild these or find a better used one? Comments? Thanks

If it helps my g260 makes an almost straight cut gear whine, hasn't blown up this drift season yet.

I recently threw 75w140 mixed with some red line fluid... It seemed to quiet things down a bit.

Could be your layshaft bearing, as that would explain why it dosnt do it in 5th direct drive. Thicker oil is about all you can do.
