Hey r3v, so last night while driving home it was almost impossible for me to get into gear. Shifting felt like stirring a bucket of rocks. I was able to get into gear no problem if my car was off, however. Right before i was home I couldn't shift at all, so i turned my car off, put it into first and drove home. When I got out of my car I could smell the clutch roasting. Also my car used to be an automatic, a 5 speed swap was done about two years ago at a shop, i have receipts for it. One more thing I forgot to mention was the return spring fell out about a year ago, i looked it up and saw most people take it out anyways, so i wasn't too concerned, but now I'm wondering what caused it..

Chasing Transmission Trouble

It sounds like the clutch isn't releasing. If a new clutch was used in the 5 speed conversion it should not be that worn now. But if a used clutch, it could worn to the point that it won't disengage. If there are no leaks in the clutch hydraulics, replace the master and slave cylinders and see if that fixes it.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Okay so a little update. I found the clear cylinder in front of the clutch (I believe it is the master cylinder? But not sure, I know very, very little about transmission) was leaking. I filled it up with fluid last night and was able to drive it around the block with really no problem. But this morning I went to check it and sure enough the fluid had gone down, I filled it up but this time that didn't help any. Can't get into gear at all again..

The slave cylinder is mounted to the bell housing on the lower left side and can only be seen from user the car. Is that what was leaking? The reference to the "clear" cylinder sounds like the brake/clutch fluid reservoir. The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Okay so a little update. The clear cylinder I was referring to was indeed the brake fluid resovoir in front of the brake booster. I also found the source of the leak. It was a bad connector tube in the master cylinder. This thing. http://www.bavauto.com/lview.asp?img...1521151697.jpg
