    Where to buy ring and pinion gears ?

    I have an 86 325es and can't seem to find a place that sells gears for my car. Would also be interested in a Posi unit rebuild kit for same. I tried Google search .

    I have no idea where you would find those parts as I don't think they were ever available as separate parts. It would make more sense to just get a replacement (used) differential if the ring and pinion need to be replaced.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

        bimmerdiffs has the stuff or i got my ring gear from ebay.co.uk and it was cheaper to buy and ship then just buy here

            Is going to be cheaper and a whole easier in the long run to just buy a used diff in the gear you want.

              It depends on the situation. I bought new clutches from bimmerdiffs (the gears were fine) and being in a central racing hub got someone to do the labor on the side for $50. With new gears I was only looking at $5-600 for a completely rebuilt diff, as opposed to $250-$300 for a used diff or 1k+ for a rebuilt unit from someone here. My labor costs were abnormal for sure, but if he can do it himself he can definitely have a good diff for pretty cheap.

                Actually a rebuilt diff from wangan style on here is super reasonable. He built the drift diff in my car but also offers more oe rebuilds.

                  I know but then I was thinking about waiting to find the ratio I want for sale,cost of diff,cost of shipping,if I will get ripped off buying one from a member,condition of diff,will it be the correct rear,ect. I may get lucky and find one at a salvage yard. It's not like the yards around here are loaded with them. It may be a little more cost but I'll know my diff is in good working order.

                    Understand that if you change the ring or pinion gears that the full set up (shiming) of the differential will have to be done. It would not make much sense to do all of that and not use new bearings.

                      I have a friend at work that does diffs. I'm going to rebuild it gears,bearings and discs. He's going to help me setup the gears. I'm thinking of going with the 40% disc kit.
