New clutch slips - seems partially disengaged

    Hello,

We installed a new stage 2 clutch.

it slips at full power so we jacked up the car and removed the 2 screws that hold the hydraulic cylinder to the housing. For some reason the cylinder seems to be pushing the throw-out bearing at all times. When the 2 screws are removed, the cylinder wants to be pushed out towards the rear of the car.

So, to explain another way, the cylinder when installed, is pushing on the throw out bearing and partially disengaging the clutch.

    IDEAS? 1987 bmw 325is

    Thanks,
    Chuck

That is normal behavior for the slave cyl. Does the clutch not slip when you drive it with the slave backed off? If so, you.probably have the wrong throw out bearing or clutch/flywheel/trans combination.

You issue could also be the result of improper break-in/heat-cycling. Generally most the clutch manufactures I've seen state not to full throttle the clutch for the first 500 miles.

Did you attempted to let the clutch bed first before beating on it?

I hear you and I have been easy on her. Actually, I thought the break in was the engagement of the clutch, not the full throttle issue.

BUT, it still seems the cylinder is partly disengaging the clutch :(

The slave cyl will always try to extend some. Unless it is fully extending it isn't something that I'd worry about before you bed the clutch. Just drive it easy, no clutch dumping or full throttle for another 4-500 miles. If after that it's still slipping, you can look into tracing the problem. Assuming you didn't mix up incorrect parts, the bedding is likely the culprit.

Its pushing on the release fork which is attached to the other side of the gearbox with a spring, and leveraged in the middle against the back of the throw out bearing pushing into the splines on the pressure plate. So it springs back because of a combination of all of this, as said above, its completely normal.

Did you check the height of the teeth on the pressure plate when you installed the clutch? they should pull in/down towards the clutch disc. Did you resurface the fly wheel when you replaced the clutch? either of these can be your problem.

No problems with slipping with my stage 2, not even from brand new. It should grip pretty much all the time, you just want to avoid slipping the clutch a lot when it's new, you pretty much overheat the clutch and it can glaze over the flywheel and friction surfaces.
Just a little project im working on
