    First E30!! Funny noises...

Hey all! first E30, and beyond excited.

However - straight to the point.

When shifting, specifically when letting clutch back out, theres a clunk from what i assume is subframe mounts, but not sure. there seems to be no affect in handling, accelleration or decelleration. cant feel it much at all, but can really hear it when moving slow (1st to 2nd). driving me crazy.

Second. loud droneing, humming, hellicopter sound that seems to be from rear passenger - not 100%. first thought was wheel bearing, but turning is not affected by it, which left me dumbfounded, and it also starts making noise as soon as i start moving. tires were ballanced and all new, twice in the past week so i know thats not the proble. Guibo is in good shape, but i have never delt with the whole bearing in the middle of the driveshaft (previousely a rock crawler toyota guy).

it could be this, but really i have no idea what this drone is. gets pretty loud on the highway, but dont feel a thing... at all.

Yes i have used search function and read everything for about 2 weeks trying to get to the bottom of this. my symptoms seem to differ from everyone elses-mainly with the drove-thrum thrum thrum sound. no volume increase or decrease in turning or nothing.

Thanks for the help in advance, i know all the great help that is given of this site

    Luke.

Never know, if its been leaking out the seals and low on fluid could have gone bad and whine, worth checking it.

sounds like a good plan. any ideas with the clunking? got to be either subframe or trailing arm.?

Clunking was shock tower mounts!!! however, it hardly moves at all, in all honesty about a half an inch.

Anybody got ideas on this whine/roar/thumthumthum? best description is an unbalanced tire, but without the shaking at all. starts with the noise as soon as i start moving.

Funny I was going to say Guibo, mine was making the exact noise you described before I replaced it. The outside of it looked good but it was pretty dry rotted around the bolts. Hard to tell at a quick glance but in really did need to be replaced bad.

The noise that occurs when the car is moving could be a bad wheel bearing or a worn differential.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

verdurous, did it start making noises as soon as you start moving? (regardless of gear or throttle?) it causes no vibrating or thumping for me... at all.

Im going to do the driveshaft bearing, guibo and wheel bearings and if it still makes noise im gonna say screw it and buy an lsd.
