i'm guessing you have an earlier model with the shifter plate?

you should remove the circlip at the shifter (inside the cabin) and the rubber bushing at the back of the plate can be removed.
The shifter plate itself is attached by way of 2 nuts/bolts which run through a pair of sleeves that are then attached to the transmission by way of 2 allen head bolts.

Don't cut the tabs off, you need to remove the nuts/bolts or the allen heads. One or the other works, no need to do all 4.

By breaking the shifter loose and freeing the plate from the transmission the linkage will be easier to separate from the shifter.
