    Noob question for a 16 year old's e30

    So I'm a sixteen year old kid who bought my first car, a 91 318is with a blown engine. Right now I am in the middle of swapping in a low mileage m42 from a 1996 e36. I have the whole drivetrain out and am replacing (and adding) the shifter bushings which were extremely worn out, or in some cases not even there (the previous owners had the car all apart and screwed a ton of things up). So here is my question... Does anyone know what this metal sleeve is called, or where to buy a new one? The sleeve looks pretty worn out and I wish to replace it.

    Check out www.realoem.com for part numbers. Then just order from BluntTech/BMA/ECSTuning/etc.

      Why waste your time swapping an M4x? Unless you plan to boost it.

      Pelican Parts has a complete shifter rebuild kit, if that's what your referring to.

          For that I'd just swap an M5x in it, or an M20.

          I'm 16 too, and I'm building a "race" M20. But that's because I learned in a 400hp truck and learned stick in a 350hp Camaro.. And have racing experience. I'm doing that because it's the most cost effective, because I have a bunch of M20 parts.

                It's a selector rod. Goes from the bottom of the shifter to the knuckle on the tranny, correct?

                Iirc it's specific to the m42/44 setup, in that one end has a bend.
