    318is w/ grinding noise, car won't drive

All right so here it goes. My wife and I took my 318is out to run some errands last night. We were stopped and when I went to drive off there was a clunking sound and then grinding. The car would not drive forward, it only drove in reverse so I got a tow home. Any idea what could be going on? The car starts, the throttle works, there's no noise until you try to engage the clutch and drive. It happens in gears one thru five and will only drive (and won't make any noise) if you're in reverse. I tried taking a video of it but my phone doesn't capture the sound very well. Any ideas? I don't do burnouts or drop the clutch so I'm at a loss for what could have happened.

      Perhaps your throw out bearing.

It could be, but I'm not hearing any noise until I start to come off the clutch pedal. If it was the throwout bearing would there noise as soon as I press the pedal in?

FYI this only happens when the car is in gear. There aren't any noises when the car is in neutral.
