Auto diff for a 5 spd diff

I have a 5spd. Looking to swap to a LSD. Does it have to be from another 5spd or can I use a diff from an automatic?

Hey now! I know that one! I just know that there are a few different cases out there on e30 diffs. 318's have a smaller case than the 325 etc. Just wanted to see if there were any known differences from the auto or not.

no difference between auto + manual as far as fit, etc.

The 6 cyl E30's use a "medium" case diff, 4 cyl E30's (except M3) use "small" case diff. They are interchangeable, but some say the small case diff is not as strong as the medium case..........

E28 5 series diffs are also a direct fit, once you swap the rear cover + side flanges (they just pop out + in).

        Bret.
