    Putting the diff back in. Driveshaft clearance issues.

    What's up guys?

    Check this out. I removed my diff this morning and the back portion of the driveshaft came along with it (all the bolts were removed but those two were stuck together)

    Anyhow, I'm putting everything back on and the driveshaft sits too far back now and the diff wont line up with it's mounting holes. I tried pushing in the driveshaft as hard as I could but no luck

    I also tried to loosen the nut by the spline on the center support bearing, but no luck. My biggest vise grip wont clear the size of that nut.

    So I'm looking for creative suggestions. I want this car rolling by 12pm tomorrow.

    Are you saying that you pulled the rear half of your driveshaft off without loosening the centre collar?

    If so then that a problem. You can use a pipe wrench on the collar.

      Yes, that is what I'm saying.

      Describe as how it is a problem. It still went back in and slid into the splines, just not far enough. And as for the pipe wrench, I dont really have one.

          Can you still see splines? Does it look like the rear half should go further?

          Or does it stop against the centre bearing?

            It looks like it should go further. I can still clearly see maybe 3/4s of the splines left.

                could you jsut take the other part of the shaft out then maby you can get creative to lossen the collar.

                  Is the driveshaft marked so that its going back together the same way it came off? If not, don't bother trying to put it back together because its going to make one hell of a vibration.
