    Proper bolts to mate 260/M30

Real Oem doesn't offer much in terms of proper pitch fitment...

i'd much rather pick these up from my local fastner store instead of ordering from dealers.

looking for all bolts/washer specs from this image

I had a customer bring his car in for a swap and he bought regular hex bolts for the bell housing. Great idea, but BMW used the E-torx for a reason - you can't get a socket on a hex bolt, the casting interferes with it. Might be able to use socket cap screws, but not entirely sure I would want them stripping out if you needed to service something.

You can for some of them. I removed the trans from the M30 in my E34. One of the 8mm bolts rounded that stupid inverted torx head, and I had to grind the head off with a die grinder. I replaced the 8mm bolts with hex heads without a problem.

I @$$umed there was clearance for the 10mm bolts, but I didn't have problems with those bolts, so I reused the stock inverted torx ones.

Get a bolt & flat washer from your local fastener store and try it in all the 10mm holes... The worst that can happen is you waste a couple of bucks and 20 minutes of your life.

this is what I ended up dealing with when I was removing this very transmission from a euro e32 730i.

I'm looking at about $60 in bolts/fasteners alone however i'm just wondering if I could just head to a fastener specialist locally and use their hardware and save a bunch of $$...which I would need to know the thread pitch to use.

I unfortunately have no hardware from the engine/tranny I worked on in order to testfit

are you saying there simply was no fastners that would fit these?

There's fasteners that fit. The large bell housing bolts are 12mmx1.75 which is a standard 12mm thread pitch. The problem is when you use a standard hex head, the head of the bolt touches the recess in the bell housing, there is no way a socket will fit on those large bolts when replaced with hex heads (you might be able to wrench them on, but you will never service the clutch without pulling everything). You could, however, use socket cap screws (allen key heads on them), I just personally try to avoid socket caps as they tend to round easier than E-torx.

Either way, you can use the bolts from any m42, m20, m/s5x etc as they all use those same large bolts as the big six. Surely someone has some laying around. We have so many people show up missing some that all our spares get used up.

I @$$ume $60 is for the inverted torx bolts... $20 would be expensive for hex head hardware.

                      8mmx1.0
                      10mmx1.5
                      [EDIT] 12mmx1.75 as mentioned above
                      Standard coarse pitch.

I thought RealOEM showed the lengths for each bolt.
                      [EDIT2] http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...90&hg=23&fg=10

The large inverted torx bolts are a lot less prone to rounding off than the small ones.
I think the 12mm bolts are standard hex heads, secure the starter and insert from the engine side.
