    5 speed swap-flywheel compatability

    Hi there,

So I'm gathering the bits to do the auto to 5 speed swap on my 87is....I've got an 85 tranny, driveshaft and flywheel ....good history on the tranny, good shaft..............so the flywheel is a single mass, weighs 24lbs (on my bathroom scale) and has a single tab on the circumference which I understand interacts with the starter on the 85's (??), ....so can I shave the '85 single mass flywheel to 15 lbs or so and bolt it up to my m20is engine....then get the clutch kit for the 85 single mass????????? and be good to go????...this is the main question....will the flywheel work and which clutch kit

AND will the starter work??? do I grind the tab off or does it matter??.....I haven't pulled the auto out yet so I can't test fit it???

I've searched threads and I think I'm fine...but if the starter thing will be an issue as well..maybe different flywheel is in order (although I'd rather spen the $$ shaving this one...

    Thanks...any info is much appreciated
Working...
