Shifter still hits console after UUC install

Last year I replaced every item in the shift linkage from the b!tch clip to the rubber mount at the rear, to include the shifter itself (UUC). It's great and the only critism I have is when shifting into reverse. It still bumps the console enough to damage the newly-replaced boot (not nearly anything like it was however!). Oh yeah, I also replaced the tranny mounts too! I suspect that I will have to live with this BMW fault barring some creative dremel work?!

Is there any remedy here so I can fix this once and for all?

    Thanks

Is the shifter angled towards the front or rear?

I'll check. Not so much either way that I could tell you right away. I called UUC Friday and they said check your rear carrier mount bushing. I told them it's only a year old (and less than 10k old - just like the ENTIRE setup). Under the car yesterday and the mount is fine. Anyone ever put a more solid bushing in the rear carrier mount?

Couple people I know actually just bent the shifter in a vice a few degrees to the right. Worked pretty good. Of course my UUC shifter is perfect and never rubs, so I guess I am a lucky one?! I say bend it.

            rs4pro3,
I've already pulled it over a bit temporarily while seeing if there is a solution (and while I have a bunch of things taken apart) and it still will hit slightly (and eventually damage the boot). Either I'll bend it (f'ed up solution #1) or modify the console (#2).

did a 2nd visual last night and everything underneath still looks new. The shifter, when in nuetral, slants toward the rear. I'll probably modify the console tab that get bolted down just rear of the shifter and live with the minor hitting and shift slow as hell into R each time (not). poor setup if you ask me.

So after 10K miles, I'm fed up. turns out the "t - shaped pice" or selector rod joint is not the right one by part number! I looked up online (bavauto.com) and checked with a somewhat knowledgeable guy at BavAuto (who tried at first to sell me the same wrong PN - not the part number I found on realoem.com) and special ordered the right pn. We'll see, still waiting on the part - the one orginally ordered was for other BMWs (e28, etc.) when the orig PN was cross-referenced on realoem.com - not for an E30 (it sure looked similar though). I hope this is the problem and not the tranny.

I'll update this when I get the parts

e36's have the same type of shifter "T" shaped piece, but it looks beefier imho, when you get the new on snap a pic of them side by side and take some measurements, maybe figure out where it came from too :)

It also depends on which selector rod you have. There are 2 types. One T peice is even on both sides, one has a longer side.
