    Urgent Driveshaft questions!

My BMW is an 88 325is auto. I recently purchased a getrag 260 from an 87 with the large output flange. The driveshaft he gave me does not fit, it will only fit the small output flange transmissions. I'm wondering if the output flange from the auto would work or can I use a late model driveshaft?

Second question. Will a manual driveshaft and CSB and flex disk Guibo from a getrag 240 fit on a getrag 260?

    Thanks in advance

For the second question, use realoem.com to compare part numbers.

Yes you can use the output flange from the auto trans.

The 240 driveshaft does not work.

Revshift make an adapter guibo that will mate small and large flanges and would allow you to run your current parts.

I wouldn't recommend that adaptor to my worst enemies. Unless you want your driveshaft to suddenly pop off and destroy your tranny tunnel, trans, or you.

Speaking from experience? I doubt RS would sell a product that is untested and dangerous as you say it is.

You CAN NOT use an output flange from an auto trans. Ive been through this trust me.. They look the same but the actual inside of the flange has different splines than the trans. All autos have small splines and many of them. Manual output flanges have thicker splines and less. If you dont want to replace flange go with a rev shift adapter as mentioned otherwise get a manual output flange the correct size you need and the proper drive shaft cause they are different. I highly recomend replacing the flange instead of running the rev shift adapter

What years and models came with the smaller flange? i need a smaller flange for the quibo and driveshaft to work. there is an 86 325e in a junkyard close by me and its a manual. THe output shaft on the g260 in the car now is larger than my guibo and drivershaft.

Ill check on Realoem. Thank you! im just wondering cause a guy above said they dont work. Have you done this yourself or just going off part numbers? What did you use to get the flange nut off? i was thinking a deep well socket i think its a 22mm the same size as the crank bolt.

What year e30s had the smaller manual flange? there are a few e30s in junkyards around and i may be able to pull some of the driveshafts and switch the flanges.

The majority of the cars had the small flange. A select few 87 and 88 Eta cars came with the larger flange for some reason. There is no set production dates that came with it that I know of though.

I understand what your saying about real oem but I have dealt wit this myself personally lol. Manual Trans flanges and auto trans flanges have different splines. Late models have the smaller flange and early models have the larger flange. The problem I had was a late 325i driveshaft with a trans out of a 88 325 and Thad the larger output flange so the driveshaft was the correct length but wouldn't bolt up because the bolt holes were different. Therefore I had 2 auto trans on the side with the smaller flange and though it would work so I took the safety clip thing that's around the nut and went to go install the small flange off the 2 autos I had to see and when I went to go install it the splines from the auto are thinner and there are more. Manual trans has thicker splines and less splines. Therefore you need a output flange (small) off a manual trans only and the proper driveshaft. Will post a picture to show you the difference when I get home from work.
