e36 trans mated to a m10?

i have a 85 318i with a g240 trans.

i did a serch tring to find out if a could mate a e36 trans to my m10 but did come up with anything on this. so my questions are, 1. do they mate together, 2. if so do i need to do anything to make it work right. and 3. if all dose work how will it affect my gear range.

the reason im asking is i just lost 2 gear in my car and there a few e36 tranys around local junk yards for a good price.

any info on this would be great thank you
