    Transmission shifting problems

    Hello,
I have a getrag 240 in a 1987 320i. It doesnt like to shift when the car is on but when the car is off it shifts perfectly fine. The throwout bearing is toast and i am replacing it, could that be the only problem or is there something else? Also sorry if this is a newbish question as i am a newb to e30's haha
    Thanks

how do you know throwout is bad?

your experiencing typical behavior of a clutch not disengaging so anything to do with it not releasing can be suspect ,as for hydraulics master or slave cylinder. mechanical , bad throw bearing (collapsed) ,clutch plate stuck to flywheel ,broken pressure plate, bad pilot bearing ,delaminating disc/spring broken jammed in assembly.

    so inspect all while apart

The throw out bearing is toast because i have the transmission apart and it was in pieces...literally. the pressure plate if still fine. the slave cylinder and hydraulics is good. im thinking it is just the pilot bearing. We'll see when everything is put back together. Thanks

Also, if i were to order a full clutch kit, (as i have a getrag 240) could i use any clutch kit kit that is made for a g240 or do i have to use the specific kit for an e30? The price for one is ridiculous as i have to get it shipped from the UK from rockauto. Or if you guys have any other sites that would be awesome. also i have an m20b20 if that makes a difference. Thanks all

ridiculous bump but i don't wanna have to spend $300 on a clutch kit if not needed.
