I bought my E30 knowing it had a shifting problem, the PO said there was no firs or second gear. I assumed it need a new transmission but was told by some that that probably was not the case. So I rebuilt the shifter linkage and changed the transmission fluid. First and second gear can both be found, although not consistently. Reverse works fine every time. Sometimes first and second will be easy to find but then third, fourth, and fifth can't be found. Then third, fourth, and fifth can be found but not first and second.
The PO did mention he replaced the clutch and seeing some of the other stuff he did to the car I am doubting his thoroughness and I'm wondering if he did it wrong somehow.
Any suggestions on what would be causing this? I am going to check the master cylinder and replace the slave cylinder too.
