    Help please!

For some reason, I cannot downshift into 1st in my e30. I can go up from first through all the others, but can only downshift back down into 2nd, and not every time. I must cut the car off, put it into 1st and start it back up. I had thought that it was a throwout bearing, so I replaced that and my whole transmission, but it didn't work and I feel like I did a lot of work for nothing. Do any of you have any info that could help?

    How sloppy is your shifter?

Downshifting to first needs to be done when the car is BARELY moving, like under 10 MPH. The ratio change is big between second to first. Not only that, you can mess up the syncros.

I'd recommend against downshifting into first... that's what I was always taught.

^ +1 my car won't downshift into first under 10 mph either because I don't ask it to. Absolutely no reason to do that, you'll only screw up the syncros like said above.
