I'm about to do the 325i flywheel swap and need some info

I had the diff replaced in the 91 318 is about 2 months ago. When I got it back I noticed a slight shudder on hard acceleration.

It's gotten progressively worse and the mechanic can't locate the source. At this point I'm thinking it's the clutch. The gear changes have gotten gummy, there is a slight rattle at 2k when sitting still and a very pronounced vibration when disengaging or engaging the clutch.

This is my daily driver beater so I'm not interested in a 500 aluminium flywheel, but substantially removing rotation mass is good and can be accomplished on the cheap ala 325i swap.

So I called up the local german car junkyard / parts dealer and was quoted ~430 for parts.

Everything included from the flywheel, clutch, and all the other little bits.

This seemed a little on the high side, but I wanted to get with you guys to check on it.

I forgot to get a break down so I could cross reference to BMA, but hopefully I'll be able toget that tonight.

    Cliff Notes

    Doing the 325i flywheel swap

Price quoted for parts seemed high from the local parts slinger "~430.00"

Do you have a ballpark for the required parts?

You can do better. I bet you could get out for under 300 if you shopped around. I had a link to a cheap place but its on my home comp. Ill root around and post it up when I get back. Also youll need a 325i starter gear as well as another item but I forget that one.

For how much they're chargin, you could get a flywheel form an I and a brand new clutch for LESS than that!

They are raping you for that cost.

An IS flywheel shouldn't run more than $50. It'll have to be resurfaced if it comes from the junker anyway. That, and I wouldn't run a used clutch, especially from a junkyard.

Also, is flywheels are still heavy unless they are lightened, stock they are still 24 lbs.
