How do you replace the neutral safety switch (Automatic Transmission)?

Let me first state that I've tried searching this forum and the web and have not found an answer to this question. I believe someone who has done an AUTO to MANUAL transmission swap would know how to do this.

*Please don't tell me to bypass the neutral safety switch. I have the part in hand and am willing to replace it.

Here's what the neutral safety switch looks like:

I've removed the center console. So I have access to the top of the gear selector and neutral safety switch. Can I remove the neutral safety switch from the interior of the car or do I have to get under the car and disconnect some of the shifter linkage?

Here's a parts diagram of the shifter lever and parts:

    #2
    1. Remove automatic trans.
    2. Install 5-speed trans.
    3. ????
    4. Profit.

But seriously, I looked in the Bentley and it says to disconnect the selector rod #17 (remove #20), then there are 4 nuts up top to remove after you take all the trim off. Then the whole assembly pulls out through the top. From there you can remove #16 and pull #13 out to take everything apart.

Note that I've never actually done this before, just going off what the Bentley says to do.
