Rattling noise when clutch is depressed and in neutral

Hey guys,

So im wondering if my throw out bearing is bad. Whenever I depress the clutch pedal (clutch engaged) while in neutral I get a rattling noise. Otherwise, no noise when clutch is engaged and in gear. The clutch doesn't seem to feel any different and isn't slipping.

Im also wondering if this is livable as long as I don't keep it in neutral all the time or if its something I should take care of rather immediately? I only ask because I might as well do a clutch replacement at that point and the previous owner of the car put in a new clutch (5k miles) before selling it to me.

Probably the Getrag rattle, does it go away with a couple hundred RPM revs?

The PO did mention something about Getrag rattle now that you reminded me of that! What is that exactly?

Do you mean a couple hundred rpm while still in neutral? I'll have to go out and check haha

It is not uncommon for Getrag trannys to rattle at idle, it is the backlash in the gear stack. it is aggravated by low idle, thin gear oil and lightened flywheels.

Yes, try raising the RPMs a 100 or so RPM and see if it goes away.

Ahhh, ok. Thanks for the expected causes too. I do have a lightened flywheel so that helps me reason out the rattle.

And yes, increasing the revs does make the rattle go away! I just needed some piece of mind that I wasn't destroying something whenever hanging out in neutral haha
