    Clutch Fork

Do you have to drop the tranny in order to replace the clutch release fork?

Also, my mechanic quoted me 6-7 hours of labor just to drop the tranny. Does this sound correct?

Yep, it's inside the bellhousing so the trans has to come out. A clutch job is probably 6 hours on the books, and replacing the lever is basically 95% of the labor of a clutch job. What's wrong with your release lever?

The clutch pedal won't come back off the floor. I'm replacing the master, slave cylinders and the flex hose. My mechanic tells me that it's probably the release fork but he's not sure. He says he needs to get in there to take a look to see what the problem is.

The clutch also makes a whirring noise when disengaged which leads me to believe the throwout bearing is going. While we're in there, I was going to have the flywheel lightened.
