    Binnerworld upgraded Mounts

    Hello to all,

I am looking at changing my engine and tranny mounts.
I do not want to have too much NVH, so I try not to go polyurethane ( IE or AKG ).

I also read somewhere that going urethane motor and rubber tranny might be the best of both worlds...

Would you recommend Bimmerworld upgraded motor & transmission mounts for a "harder-than-stock-but-not-stiff-as-wood" driving on a daily basis ???

Anyone got experience with those mounts ??

    any infos greatly appreciated.

    cheers / Pierre

I just got the e12 mounts for the engine and stock mounts for the tranny. For what you are looking for, they are the way to go. Do a search for e12 motor mounts and read what others have to say. Cost $51 for all four mounts from BMA. BTW - don't use the R3V discount if you go this route, the price will drop below $50 and then you'll have to pay about $11 more for shipping.

      Jrowe,

      thanks for the reply.
But are you sure we can use the E12 mounts for the M20 engine installation ??

I didn't make any swap on my car and I thought the E12 mounts were an upgrade for the M30/M50 swap...

      Any confirmation on this ?
      Thanks / Pierre

Don't Alpina engines have atypical engine mounts, or am I mistaken?

I used regular E30 urethane mounts from bimmerworld for my M30 swap...

Just get the E30 hardened rubber mounts. i think you'll be happy with those...

            Hi Eurospec,

well Alpina used some special mounts, but they are not available anymore.
I asked my Alpina parts supplier, and he told me the mounts & bushing used are now M3. fine for subframe and trailing arms, but the S14 engine mounts and tranny mounts are quite different than for the M20.

Anyone got more feedback about the E12 OEM mounts ? any mod required to fit them ??
If they can fit I may go E12 for the motor mounts and E30 OEM for the tranny. can't be too harsh and will probably suit my driving.

            Cheers / Pierre

The e12 mounts are almost identical to the m20 mounts, just beefier. The only modification that needs to be made is to grind off one of the locating nipples on each mount. The m20 mounts only have them on one side, while the e12 mounts have them on both sides.

                Thanks everyone for the replies,

I think I will go E12 motor mounts & E21 tranny stock mounts.

What are your thoughts ? What do you think for a Daily driver ?
Still rubber but beefier, keeping Original BMW parts, and a cheap option too.

                cheers / Pierre

Many people have gone with IE Urethane tranny mounts, but end up switching to the Bimmerworld upgraded ones. I just bought a pair, haven't got around to installing them yet though. You won't be able to tell a difference in stiffness, and they don't come with all the NVH. I'd go with IEs motor mounts, this is from their site:

"These heavy duty urethane motor mounts are stronger and absorb vibration better than the factory mounts. They are also more resistant to oil and ozone. Available for E30 (also available for 318 and M3 else where in this catalog), E9, E3, E12, early E24 cars. Priced each"

They're $45 each, definitely worth it. Somebody recently had a pair of theirs shear, but that's only because they messed with stock heat shielding.

                    Hi there,

well The upgraded Bimmerworld tranny mounts, are definately the OEM E21 mounts, so I will go E21 tranny mounts with reinforcing cups.

The Bimmerworld upgraded Engine mounts are OEM E12 mounts, so I will go OEM as well.

If I am not satisfied after that then I may uprgrade the motor mounts...

Will see once fitted, but I suppose the OEM way is best ( with this slight upgrade ) for a daily driver...

                    Cheers / Pierre
