well I would have put mt90 in. But it sounds like you just need a new tranny before that one breaks. IDK how much bret would want for one but he's gotta have a ton of em.

      Hmmmm.
Yeah as long as the tranny is properly lubricated they don't make much noise at all.

But as far as I know having the transmission fail totally is RARE.
I've heard of xmissions with 500k still running strong.

it sounds like marbles, pisses me straight the hell off
i dont know how much id trust a tranny from one of those cars especially since i wont be able to test it to see if it has the same issue but i guess i dont have another option

My 528e w/ G260/5 sounds exactly the same when idling in neutral. Its not noisy with the clutch pressed in, or while driving around. I have heard rumors that it is caused by the input shaft bearing and that its such a PITA to replace that I should live with it or replace the transmission. I'm going to replace seals next month, hoping to keep the fluid level more constant to extend the life of the transmission.

As others have said, trannys don't usually fail completely. They will sound completely rediculous long before they leave you stranded, with typical driving.

yes, my tranny makes a rattling noise @ idle, and its b/c the PO ran the clutch/throw-out bearing into the ground...as a result the input shaft is scored all the hell, and the new throw-out bearing rattles around on it @ idle. easiest fix, replace tranny.
